This video was played on a loop as part of an installation in Geneva at UN Square during a hunger strike, on February 5-6, 2024. It was seen by hostage families, diplomats, journalists, and members of the public as part of the protest.
Save the Hostages
Save their Image. Save Ourselves.
It is easy in our everyday lives to lose sight of October 7th. Were it not for the hostage posters on the streets of NYC and Western cities, we could well forget altogether the basic fact: that antisemitism has returned to the USA and Europe with a vengeance. We are documenting a disturbing manifestation of that resurgence—the desecration of hostage posters by allies of Hamas in America.
We believe that these are objects that project the presence of our kidnapped loved ones in ways that few other objects can. The posters have allowed us to process our grief even as the crisis has raged. Despite, and likely because of their defacement, we believe the posters carry and will carry historical significance for Jews as emblems of this new era of revived Jew hatred. One that, through their documentation, we strive to overcome. This website gallery curates a selection of desecrated hostage posters.
Don’t look away. See. And help BRING THEM HOME NOW!
